On the outskirts of Karachi lies Rehri Goth, a fishing community once marginalised by the state and overshadowed by the influence of the drug mafia. Deprived of essential healthcare, the residents faced dire circumstances—mothers and children perished before they could reach a hospital. With no medical facilities or financial means, women were forced to give birth at home, often leading to life-threatening complications. In 2012-13, the neonatal mortality rate in Rehri Goth stood at a staggering 57 deaths per thousand live births, while under-five mortality reached an alarming 107 per thousand. With a population exceeding 60,000, these figures underscored an urgent crisis that demanded intervention.
Thus began the story of VITAL Pakistan Trust (VPT). Now, eleven years later, VPT has expanded its operations to seventy-four locations, steadfast in its mission to provide free maternal, neonatal, and child healthcare (MNCH) services. To date, the organisation transformed the lives of 87,386 women ensuring that 299,208 children received life-saving immunisations. Over the past decade, VPT has played a pivotal role in reducing neonatal and under-five mortality rates in its areas of operation, bringing measurable change where it is needed most.
As VPT continues its journey, its footprint grows, reaching more underserved communities with quality healthcare. Through the dedication of its workforce and the expansion of its services, VPT remains committed to improving the lives of those who need it most—turning despair into hope, one mother and one child at a time
Established in 2013, VPT operates across 49 strategic locations in Karachi, serving the most vulnerable communities with quality maternal, neonatal, and child healthcare services.
